LIVER METABOLIC EFFECTS OF A HIGH-FAT LOW- CARBOHYDRATE DIET IN RATS: A STUDY UNDER DIFFERENT ENERGY CONDITIONS

چکیده

The beneficial effects of high-fat, low-carbohydrate (HFLC) diets on glucose metabolismhave been questioned and its liver metabolism are not totally clear. This workaimed to evaluate the HFLC diet under different energy conditions glucosehomeostasis, fatty development hepatic gluconeogenesis using isolated perfusedrat liver. (79% fat, 19% protein, 2% carbohydrates in Kcal%) wasadministered rats over four weeks three conditions: hypercaloric; isocaloric andhypocaloric (energy reduction 20%). Fasting blood levels total fat liverwere higher all rats. Oral tolerance was impaired andhypercaloric groups, although insulin sensitivity wasn´t altered. also causedmarked metabolic alterations: rate from lactate a reducedcapacity catabolize alanine, latter effect more intense hypocaloric condition. Weconcluded that, even when used for weight loss, our data imply that they canpotentially cause harmful consequences

Tocotrienols Reverse Cardiovascular, Metabolic and Liver Changes in High Carbohydrate, High Fat Diet-Fed Rats

Tocotrienols have been reported to improve lipid profiles, reduce atherosclerotic lesions, decrease blood glucose and glycated haemoglobin concentrations, normalise blood pressure in vivo and inhibit adipogenesis in vitro, yet their role in the metabolic syndrome has not been investigated. In this study, we investigated the effects of palm tocotrienol-rich fraction (TRF) on high carbohydrate, h...

Protective effects of L-arabinose in high-carbohydrate, high-fat diet-induced metabolic syndrome in rats

BACKGROUND L-Arabinose is a non-caloric sugar, which could affect glucose and lipid metabolism and suppress obesity. However, few reports have described the effect of L-arabinose in metabolic syndrome, a combination of medical disorders that increase the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. OBJECTIVE This study was conducted to explore the effects of L-arabinose in rats with metabolic...

Responses of inflammatory markers to a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet: effects of energy intake.

BACKGROUND Inflammation contributes to atherogenesis. Dietary fats may be proinflammatory. OBJECTIVE The objective was to determine whether energy intake modulates the effects of low-fat, high-carbohydrate intakes on inflammatory markers. DESIGN Twenty-two healthy postmenopausal women with a mean (+/-SD) age of 61 +/- 11 y, who were not receiving hormone replacement therapy, were fed eucalo...

Long-term effects of participation in a randomized trial of a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet.

In 1982 we started a series of pilot studies to examine the feasibility of dietary intervention with a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet in women with extensive mammographic densities. The purpose of the present paper is to examine the long-term effects of participation in these studies by assessing nutrient intake and other variables several years after active participation had stopped. Two hund...

Low-carbohydrate, high-protein, high-fat diet alters small peripheral artery reactivity in metabolic syndrome patients.

BACKGROUND Low carbohydrate diets have become increasingly popular for weight loss. Although they may improve some metabolic markers, particularly in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) or metabolic syndrome (MS), their net effect on vascular function remains unclear. OBJECTIVE Evaluate the relation between dietary macronutrient composition and the small artery reactive hyperaemia index (saRHI), a...
